Sand or Waste!

Posted On 2010-08-16 , 12:29 PM

I am sounding off before I read any articles of Dustin Johnsons Gaff. I looked at the lie of his ball just like all the rest of the people that were watching T.V. and I did not even think that he was in a bunker. I will say that the last day of the tournament at Whistling Straits was one of the better entertaining tournaments as of this date. The players made some of the greatest shots as seen at many other tournaments this year. It was great to see David Toms make a hole in one, who is a great player.
Watching Dustin walking to his ball I kept thinking that there should have been Officials at the ball moveing the gallery back away from his ball. It had looked as if the gallery had wore the grass down to were it had become waste. When Dustin hit the ball it did not look as if it were sand from a bunker.
I have to respect the call but I do not have to like it!

Tiger Woods and the Putter

Posted On 2010-07-20 , 11:58 AM

Tiger Woods was answering questions Sunday at the Old Coarse on why he changed his putter after using the Nike putter for the first three rounds of the 139th Open Championship. He ditched it and went back to his Old Faithful Tittlest Scotty Cameron Newport 2 that has been home in his bag since 1999. Well up until this week! How confuseing for us and Tiger Woods!
It is also difficult to win when you are so back from the leaders, which is where woods was when he went off the first tee with Lucas Glover at 12:20 p. m. Woods actually started well birding the first and third holes, both par fours, which made us think that his decision to retrieve the Titlist putter from the bad corner had paid off.
Tiger has to be careful and improve his game or he will find himself being spanked at the other Majors!

TaylorMade R9 SuperTri

Posted On 2010-07-05 , 12:33 PM

The TaylorMade R9 driver has a 420cc head, three movable weights and a system that allowed golfers to unscrew the clubhead and re-attach it to the shaft in one of eight different positions. Then came the bigger and more powerful R9 460, that also features the adjustable head but does not have the movable weights.
From a performance standpoint, the 460cc head of the SuperTri is more forgiving than the original R9. The center of gravity has been moved lower and 2 millimeters back in the head, drives should launch higher with slightly more spin for greater carry distance. The center of gravity in the SuperTri is even slightly lower and farther back than the R9 460's. The face is also the deepest TaylorMade has ever produced.

Bubba has Breakthrough Win

Posted On 2010-06-28 , 7:34 AM

Bubba Watson over came a 6 shot deficit to force a 3-way sudden death playoff with Pavin and Verplank and beat Verplank with a par on the second play off hole.
Bubba Watson really wanted to play well at the Travelers Championship to impress U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Cory Pavin.
He Did.
Watson, the long-hitting left hander from Florida's Panhandle close with a 4- under (66) to match Verplank (64) and Pavin (66) at 14 under.Pavin was out on the first extra hole.
After making a three foot putt on the par three 16th to win, Watson hugged his wife Angie and started crying. He said that he was so nervous that he could not feel his arms and hands on the final putt!

The Hots and The Nots at Pebble Beach

The hots and nots of Pebble Beach. What a tourny it was with such bad play by the best and the great play of Greame McDowell

Graeme McDowell survived a treacherous Pebble layout to win his first major championship.

HOT

1. G-Mac. Winning the U.S. Open is a big deal in and of itself, but what a refreshing character this guy is: smart, blunt, down-to-earth, and funny, too. Plus, now I have a reason to go back to Royal Portrush.

2. Pebble Beach. Barely 7,000 yards, with very playable rough, it was still a superb test and the vistas — especially in HD, and especially in the twilight — made for nothing less than golf porn.

3. European golf. The bizarre 40-year drought at the U.S. Open is over, another star has been minted, and this week's BMW International has a stronger field than Hartford. Oh, and the Open at the Old Course is likely to be the highlight of the summer. Take that, Finchem.

4. Ai Miyazato. The most dominant player in golf this minute won for a fourth time in the last few months and seized the top spot in the world ranking. Bonus points for those cool knee-high socks.

5. Gregory Havret. Yes, that putt on the 72nd hole was a little timid, but he played the best golf of any of the contenders on Sunday and displayed a Frenchy's poetic soul. "Of course I'm disappointed," he said when it was all over, "because I was so close to heaven."

NOT
1. Dustin Johnson. His on-course demeanor has always reminded me of Retief Goosen. What else do they have in common? Both have now shot in the 80's as the 54-hole leader at the Open. Johnson has tantalizing potential, but Goose is a cautionary tale — he has never recovered from his self-immolation at Pinehurst five years ago.

2. Phil. Right now we should have Slam fever, but Mickelson squandered a golden opportunity with loose play, which included five balls in the hazard over four rounds and four three-putts on the weekend. But it sure is fun to have him in contention at every major, and it will be a blast to see what he can do at the Old Course.

3. Tiger. That back-nine 31 on Saturday was vintage magic, but he looked ordinary at best when it really mattered, on Sunday. For those scoring at home, that's now three majors in a row with shaky final rounds.

4. Ernie. You knew it was coming, but the dénouement was still a stunner: not one but two balls in the hazard on the same hole. He has won three majors but now has 28 other top-10s. That's an awful lot of scar tissue. The thought with Ernie was that he would have been right in the hunt for the lead with his easy play
